Assistant Vice President / Chief Operating Officer – HonorHealth Research Institute
The AVP-COO is responsible for providing primary operations, innovation, strategic oversight and management for the HonorHealth Research Institute (HRI). Using project management, clinical, business and leadership skills, this position will develop and manage the clinical research team and infrastructure required to reach HRI objectives.
Manages all clinical operations activities in accordance with FDA and other applicable federal state and local regulations, company policy and procedures [Clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)]. Assesses operational activities to ensure continuous improvement of effectiveness, productivity and quality of service by planning, establishing and revising work assignments and schedules and providing quality assurance review. Interviews, selects and hires personnel. Initiates changes in classification, salary action, transfers and terminations. Administers performance evaluations. Settles employee problems and administers appropriate disciplinary action. Provides operations and business leadership in close collaboration with scientific and medical leadership from Medical Director to develop, oversee and guide program to successfully achieve goals.
Develops, recommends and coordinates the implementation of new policies and procedures to ensure Program and Practice effectiveness and answers questions regarding policies. Oversight of program practice management and coding curriculum development. Provides oversight and education to physicians and staff on essential Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and overall practice management skills including forms of practice, office systems, financial management, risk management and insurance, accounts receivable management, understanding coding and compliance and managing professional liability risk.
Develops budget for operations, estimating the future personnel and equipment needs and allocating the funds to accomplish the objectives. Monitors budget variances on an ongoing basis and reports analyses of budgetary compliance. Prepares payroll and accounts payable invoices, monitoring inventory and ordering of supplies. Monitors and tracks profitability of insurance plan contracts making recommendations on continued participation or participation in new contracts. Actively manages operations to achieve financial performance targets.
Provides ongoing collaboration with external customers such as pharmaceutical sponsors, regulatory agencies, academic institutions and other departments to ensure seamless care and patient satisfaction. Negotiates with sponsors and represents program with sponsors, philanthropists and grant agencies as needed. Managing strategic alliances with external relationships including industry sponsors, foundations and academic entities; developing new business planning for HRI initiatives, creates value through identifying and initiating new innovations; identifying and promoting opportunities for commercialization, ventures and technology transfer.
Oversees practice management information system and production of management reports. Coordinates with Information Services to insure accuracy and integrity of data and system-defined functions. Oversight of all patient and third-party billing activities including charge and payment posting, coding and compliance, claims follow-up, appeals of denials and requests for more information. Monitors accounts receivable and collections, establishment of billing policies and procedures, ensures complaints and inquiries from patients are handled according to policy. Presents billing performance statistics.
Assists in establishing quality levels and standards of the Center to meet requirements of state, federal and other regulatory agencies in collaboration with the Research Quality, Regulatory and Compliance department and the compliance committee.
